The Beach Shack Series

Beach shacks are an iconic part of Australia. Yet, they also have a hidden, more complex history.

'Prickly Pear on Regent'. Framed 40 x 45 cm. Oil on board. A little gem found just back from the cliffs in Jan Juc. The rising sun hits the weathering boards just right on a summer morning. The warm cream glow of the house sits nestles amongst the native shrubs and prickly pear.

'Not for long' / Boston Road. Framed 60 x 40 cm. Oil on board. Price $500. It was the old, red brick chimney and the pink Camellia that caught my eye the first time I saw this house. On further examination I found more and more quirk that I could throw into the painting. Finally, it was the bronzed rays of afternoon sun casting shadows across the silver roof and the lawn that sold me. This one will be pulled down in a matter of weeks, I think. I hope they save this precious Banksia in front.
'Aloe Vera' / Deal St. Framed 35 x 45 cm. Oil on board. SOLD.
'Fibro on Regent' / Regent St, Jan Juc. SOLD. This impressionist style painting was a favourite of my beach shack series. This mid-century home sits high on the cliff and was built facing north east to capture the best light and the sun as it raises across Jan Juc. I had wanted to paint it for years. Unfortunately, it had fallen into ill repair and like so many other older, beautiful homes they get pulled down. I hope to continue saving the stories and love for these homes one painting at a time. Sold to a gentleman who had lived there and loved it.

'One of a kind' / Jan Juc. Framed 47 x 58 cm. Oil on board. I've loved this place from the time I moved here 14 years ago. It was early in 2022 when scaffolding went up around it for renovations. This was the moment I decided that I needed to paint my favourite and iconic homes before we lose them.

'Not forgotten' / Boston St, Torquay. 40 x 60 cm. Oil on board. $550. The stories this old Fibro could tell. Lost behind tall grass, a carefully placed timber table feature in the middle of the lawn and a rusty gate, time has stood still it seems since 1969. Could this have been the birth place of something big...
'Grandma's on Manly St.' Manly St. 40 x 50 cm. Oil on board. SOLD.
'Lemon Sorbet'. Framed 30 x 37 cm. Oil on board. Price $350. This is the second I painted as a commission request. I traveled to Apollo Bay and stayed overnight to study this newly purchased fisherman's house on Gallipoli Drive, Apollo Bay. Sometimes I have to wait for the right time of day and for the colour to be just the right shade of gelato. The collector was able to choose which of the paintings they liked the best. I liked them both.
'Pastels on the Great Ocean Road' / Great Ocean Road. Framed 45 x 35 cm. Oil on board. $400.
