The Beach Marker Series

The yellow emergency beach numbers are more than just markers; they have become an integral part of the Victorian Surf Coast’s identity. Since their inception in the early 1970s they have become landmarks that locals and tourists associate with the area.

Over the past 12 years I’ve noticed the aging patina and iconic nature of these signs begin to deteriorate and I’m concerned that they may disappear for good. However, I believe they still have an important function and if nothing else a historical significance. Preserving them reinforces the community's commitment to safety and the welfare of all who enjoy the beautiful beaches on the Surf Coast.

So I have been collecting photos and including the yellow triangles in some of my paintings. The latest addition has been a sticker series of the iconic beach markers. Whether you’re lucky enough to live on the Coast or are just paying a visit to your favourite beach, you can now honour your favourite spot with a sticker. Choose one or all, collect and share around with others who can relate to the history and unique identity of the Surf Coast. Contact
